When you hear about the stories of heroism on the ground and the spirit of rebirth in the aftermath of 9/11, visiting Ground Zero is both heartbreaking and uplifting.
This walking tour takes you through the history and sights of Ground Zero, led by a New Yorker with a personal connection to the September 11th events. We begin with St. Paul’s Chapel, a lovely chapel established in 1766 and is one of NYC’s oldest churches. You’ll hear about how the church helped the community in the aftermath of 9/11 and how it miraculously withstood the wreckage from the nearby plane crashes.
Then you’ll stroll with your guide to the 9/11 Memorial, where you’ll hear about the memorial plaza’s symbolic locations, such as the Survivor Tree and Reflecting Absence, the continent’s biggest artificial waterfalls.
Following that, your guide will get you ready for your journey to the 9/11 Museum. We provide a skip-the-line ticket for your visit, which is self-guided. Artifacts and first-person accounts from September 11th are on display in the museum. We suggest spending at least two hours at the museum. However, you are free to remain as long as it is open.
You may also visit the One World Trade Center if you upgrade your ticket. The rebuilt World Trade Center is a memorial to those who died in the attacks and celebrated the city’s resiliency. “Voices,” a film dedicated to the men and women of the World Trade Towers and new One World Trade Center, kicks off your self-guided tour in the lobby. After that, ride the Sky Pod elevator to the top of Freedom Tower. There, you may visit the See Forever Theater and the One World Observatory’s 360-degree, 1,250-foot observation deck, which offers stunning views of Manhattan.
